Picture of Anton ProskurnikovAbstract: Many protocols for multi-agent coordination and agent-based models arising in nature are based on simple dynamics of iterative averaging. Examples include, e.g., the DeGroot model of rational consensus and opinion formation models stemming from it, Vicsek’s model of self-aligning particles, containment control and target aggregation algorithm for mobile robots, and distributed algorithms for equation solving. These algorithms and models are similar in structure. However, the methods used for their analysis are quite different, as well as the assumption imposed on the network.

Recently, a novel method to examine the dynamics of iterative averaging has been proposed based on the technique of averaging inequalities. The talk will demonstrate applications of this method in multi-agent control and analysis of opinion dynamics models.

Bio:  Anton Proskurnikov is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering (DET), Polytechnic of Turin, Italy. Before moving to Italy, he occupied research positions at the Delft University of Technology, the University of Groningen, the Russian Academy of Sciences (2006-2021) and St. Petersburg State University. His research interests focus on the dynamics of multi-agent networks and their applications in social and natural sciences, e.g., agent-based modelling of social processes.

IFAC and Elsevier awarded Anton Proskurnikov for the best paper published in the Annual Reviews in Control journal (2020). He is currently associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control and used to be a member of the editorial board in the Journal of Mathematical Sociology.
