Digital Futures welcome to Stockholm and the Aula Medica stage: Helena Haapio, João Barros, Narges Ahmidi, Suresh Venkatasubramanian, Dimitra Simeonidou and Danny Spitzberg! We’re excited and look forward to their talks at Digitalize in Sthlm ’23.

The theme this year is COLLABORATION AND CONFLICT. Digital transformation requires collaboration on all levels, from human-machine teaming to interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral interactions. Yet, in a world ridden with conflict, it is a challenge to reconcile everyone’s needs and make collaborations click. Join us in mapping productive paths to a collaborative future!

Helena Haapio is a pioneer of Proactive Law and contract design, a practitioner by day and an author and editor by night. Based in Helsinki, Finland, she works as a Contract Strategist at Lexpert Ltd. Helena is currently also an Associate Professor of Business Law at the University of Vaasa and a Professor of Practice and a Docent of Proactive Law and Contract Design at the University of Lapland.

João Barros is Professor Catedratico (Full Professor) of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Porto in Portugal and a visiting professor at Stanford. He also teaches at the Porto Business School and co-founded two recent startups, Streambolico and Veniam, commercializing wireless video and vehicular communication technologies.

Narges Ahmidi is the Department Head of Reasoned AI Decisions at Fraunhofer IKS and studied Artificial Intelligence and medical robotics at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU), USA. After completing her PhD, she founded and directed the “AI for Patient Diagnosis and Treatment” research laboratory at the Helmholtz Munich Center, Institute for Computational Biology (ICB).

Suresh Venkatasubramanian is a Computer Science and Data Science Professor at Brown University, USA.  Suresh’s background is as a computer scientist, and his current research interests lie in algorithmic fairness and, more generally, the impact of automated decision-making systems in society.

Dimitra Simeonidou is a Full Professor at the University of Bristol, the Bristol Digital Futures Institute’s Co-Director and the Smart Internet Lab Director. Her research focuses on high-performance networks, programmable networks, wireless-optical convergence, 5G/B5G and smart city infrastructures.

Danny Spitzberg is a user researcher for a cooperative economy. He facilitates worker-led research with Turning Basin Labs, a staffing and training co-op based in Oakland, California, USA. Over the last few years, Danny created a model for a user- and worker-led co-design, an efficient and durable approach distinct from mainstream inclusive design.
