Belgioioso awarded prize for smarter infrastructure research

Giuseppe Belgioioso, Assistant Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Digital Futures Faculty member, has been awarded the Göran Gustafsson Prize for his work on optimizing transport and energy systems.

The prize, funded by the Göran Gustafsson Foundation, includes a three-year grant to support research on how digitalisation and automation can improve the efficiency, reliability, and fairness of critical infrastructure.

In an interview on KTH website, Belgioioso highlights how mathematical tools and optimization methods can help address challenges such as traffic congestion and energy distribution, ensuring that increasingly autonomous systems serve society in a safe and trustworthy way.

A smartphone mounted on a car dashboard displays a satnav app with driving directions; outside, cars are seen through the windscreen in a traffic situation.
Giuseppe Belgioioso optimises both transport and electricity systems.
