Digital Futures – part of 28-strong delegation paving the way for new research collaborations with the US

In May, Digital Futures was part of a delegation from KTH that participated in a successful trip to the United States. During the trip, the group visited several universities and research labs in the eastern United States. The purpose of the trip was to encourage and support research collaboration and cooperation with universities, companies and wider society.

The 28-strong delegation included representatives from KTH, the City of Stockholm and collaboration partners. Representatives were management and department heads, researchers and those responsible for larger centres, as well as operational support with special responsibility for international cooperation, alumni work and student exchanges.

The first day included meetings with, among others (from left) Professor G. Kumar Venayagamoorthy (invited keynote speaker on power grids, Clemson University), Anna Kiefer, Chief Operating Officer Digital Futures, Dr Sethuraman Panchanathan (keynote speaker from Director of National Science Foundation, NSF), Tina Murrey (international advisor to the president of KTH and moderator), Lina Bertling Tjernberg (a moderator for the panel on power grids) and Magnus Frodigh, VP & Head of Ericsson Research.

The first stop was Washington DC for a two-day meeting at the House of Sweden with the Swedish Embassy. Almost 100 people were registered for the opening conference entitled The Stockholm Model. A number of national centres and initiatives were highlighted, including Viable Cities, KTH Live-In Lab, Digital Futures and Senseable Stockholm Lab, as well as the Wallenberg Autonomous Systems and Software Program, WASP.
