French–Swedish AI Workshop strengthens cross-border collaboration in Paris

The second French–Swedish Workshop on Artificial Intelligence took place on 20–21 April 2026 at Inria – the French National Institute for computer science and applied mathematics – bringing together leading researchers, innovators, and industry representatives from France and Sweden for two days of high-level exchange on the future of AI.

Hosted by Inria Paris, the event built on the momentum of the first edition held in Stockholm in October 2025, organized by Digital Futures, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and the French Embassy to Sweden. The Paris workshop further deepened bilateral cooperation in AI research and innovation.

The scientific program was curated by a joint French–Swedish committee, including Karteek Alahari (PEPR IA, Inria), Elisa Fromont (Université de Rennes), Vincent Barra (Université Clermont Auvergne, MIAI Cluster), Gaël Richard (IPP, Hi! Paris Cluster), Karl Henrik Johansson (KTH)​, Mikael Johansson (KTH​), and Alexandre Proutière (KTH​).

Key Themes Across Research and Industry

The workshop opened with a keynote by Michael I. Jordan (Inria Paris), setting the stage for discussions spanning Physical AI, Generative AI, and Trustworthy AI. Contributions from institutions such as Sorbonne Université, CNRS, and KTH Royal Institute of Technology highlighted the breadth of academic research, while industry perspectives were brought in by companies including Electronic Arts and Kyutai.

Panel discussions addressed practical challenges in deploying AI systems. A session on public sector strategies, moderated by Annika Szabo Portela (Digital Futures), featured insights from the City of Stockholm and other stakeholders. The day concluded with a keynote by Loïc Cudennec (AMIAD), followed by a reception at the Swedish Embassy hosted by the Swedish ambassador to France, Caroline Vicini.

Advancing AI for Science and Industry

The second day focused on AI for scientific discovery, infrastructure, and multimodal models, with speakers from organizations such as CEA, Mistral AI, and Pasqal.

A panel, moderated by Urban Forssell Digital Futures) on private sector adoption explored how AI can be effectively integrated into business operations, with contributions from AstraZeneca, SEBx, and Ericsson.

The event concluded with a wrap-up session summarizing key insights and identifying opportunities for future collaboration.

By convening leading voices from academia and industry, the second French–Swedish AI Workshop reinforced the strategic importance of international partnerships in advancing trustworthy, innovative, and impactful AI.
