WASP Lighthouse

The WASP Lighthouse initiative strengthens the visibility of WASP at partner universities and in their local communities. Each university highlights local people, projects, and events, contributing to a shared national narrative of research excellence. A Lighthouse is a local communication node within the WASP community. Each university hosts its own Lighthouse. Some have physical spaces holding WASP events to showcase research or dissertation defenses. Others coordinate networking events, collaborate with local industry, or organize other activities connected to the national program. Find out more on WASP website.

WASP Lighthouse at KTH is hosted by Digital Futures and focuses on three pillars: community events, demonstrations, and collaboration with the local community. Bo Wahlberg, Professor, Department of Decision and Control Systems, at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and a Digital Futures Faculty member is the WASP Lighthouse contact person at KTH.

Welcome to this year’s WASP Academia and Industry Days 13-14 October 2026 at Cirkus, Stockholm. This is our most vibrant annual gathering, bringing together representatives from academia, industry, and the public sector to explore opportunities for collaboration. This year’s theme is For the Betterment of Sweden. The theme will run throughout all activities, guiding both content and discussions. Read more here

The Nordic AI Cup aims to inspire the next generation of AI talent by giving students the opportunity to work with real-world challenges, apply artificial intelligence in practice and collaborate across disciplines and national borders. Nordic AI Cup National competitions: 17–20 September 2026
Three challenges to solve with a team or on your own. Students from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland will compete in parallel national AI challenges. The winners from Sweden will win a cash prize of SEK 40 000 + paid travel to Iceland, accommodation included, to compete for the final Nordic AI Cup title.

WASP Fellow Giuseppe Belgioioso, Assistant Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Digital Futures Faculty member, has been awarded the Göran Gustafsson Prize for his work on optimizing transport and energy systems. Read more here.

WASP took part in Digitalize in Sthlm 2025, on 11 November at Münchenbryggeriet in Stockholm, an annual conference hosted by Digital Futures that brings together researchers, industry, policymakers and civil society around digital transformation.

This year’s theme, “AI EVERYWHERE – Exploring the Challenges, Risks, and Opportunities of Autonomous Systems,” focused on how autonomous AI agents are beginning to shape sectors such as healthcare, transport, education and construction, while also raising important questions around safety, human values and fundamental rights. About The Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP)

The Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is a major national initiative for strategically motivated basic research, education and faculty recruitment. It is by far the largest individual research program in Sweden.

The ambition of WASP is to advance Sweden into an internationally recognized and leading position in the areas of artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and software.

WASP has six partner universities: Chalmers University of Technology, Linköping University, Lund University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Umeå University, and Uppsala University. In addition, there are affiliated research groups at Örebro University, and Luleå University of Technology that are also included in WASP.

Collaboration with Swedish industry is crucial, and it runs throughout several parts of WASP.
