We are pleased to share the publication of Music and Sleep – A Scientific Perspective, edited by Kira Vibe Jespersen (Aarhus University) and Björn Rasch (Fribourg University).
The book presents a comprehensive overview of current research on the relationship between music, sound, and sleep, bringing together perspectives from neuroscience, psychology, healthcare, music research, and technology. It explores how music and sonic stimulation can support sleep and wellbeing, while also examining the neural mechanisms underlying these effects.
Among the contributors are Sandra Pauletto, Associate Director at Digital Futures and Professor in the Media Technology and Interaction Design Department at KTH Royal Institute of Technology together with PhD student Abhishek Choubey, who co-authored a chapter in the volume.
The publication reflects ongoing international collaborations connected to the EU MSCA Lullabyte project, in which Sandra Pauletto is the Swedish PI. Several of the editors and contributing authors visited Stockholm last year for the SoniHED Conference, hosted by Pauletto. Some collaborators are also involved in her Digital Futures demo project, which explores how interactive sonic technologies and musical experiences can support healthy sleep and wellbeing.
“It has been exciting to contribute to a volume that brings together researchers from different disciplines working at the intersection of music, technology, neuroscience, and sleep. These collaborations are essential for developing new approaches to wellbeing and healthcare,” says Sandra Pauletto.

Sandra Pauletto is Principal Investigator of the project Sleeping Soundly: interactive sonic technologies to support sleep for healthy living, and serves as Member of the Executive Committee as Associate Director for Mobility and Inclusion at Digital Futures.
