The new Horizon Europe program with a budget of 95 billion euros for 2021–2027, offers great opportunities for research where we would like to strengthen Swedish participation and collaboration.
On 9 November, around 50 representatives of companies and academia participated in a workshop on Digitalized Industry in two parts, focusing on Opportunities in Horizon Europe and Insights into industrial challenges. The hybrid event was co-organized by Digital Futures, the KTH platforms for Digitalization and Industrial Transformation, and the ICES and TECoSA research centres.
Lars Gustafsson, Program Manager at Vinnova, gave an overview of and presented opportunities within, Horizon Europe, Cluster 4 (Digital, industry, and space) and related partnership programs. This was followed by a panel debate moderated by Martin Törngren, Chair of Digital Futures Working Group Digitalized Industry and Professor at KTH.
The discussion revolved around key takeaways and experiences regarding research at the European level, with an emphasis on strategies and experiences on how to best engage in European projects.
The panel included representatives from industry and KTH: Mikael Östling, Deputy President at KTH; Anna Rask, Senior Research Advisor at KTH Research support office; Magnus Isaksson, Senior Project Manager at RTE; Alf Isaksson, Research Fellow at ABB; Lars Gustafsson, Program Manager at Vinnova; and Anna Kiefer, Chief Operating Officer at Digital Futures. Anna Raask then gave valuable guidance on Horizon Europe and how the Research support office can help you through its processes.
The second part of the workshop was devoted to Insights from the industry and sharing of industrial roadmaps through industry presentations. Alf Isaksson from ABB, Martin Karlsson, Manager Tightening Technique at Atlas Copco and Magnus Frodigh, Vice President and Head of Ericsson Research shared their views, followed by a discussion with the audience. We are moving towards a cyber-physical continuum.
– Many of the participants expressed that the workshop had been very useful and in the discussion, it was concluded that there was room for follow-up sessions, both on Horizon Europe and in industry sharing challenges, concluded Martin Törngren.
