Qi Tang is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computational Science and Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, he was a Scientist in the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He is a computational scientist and applied mathematician with a strong interest in physics, particularly fusion energy and plasma physics. His work focuses on developing scalable, high-performance numerical solvers using open-source libraries such as MFEM and PETSc, and on integrating scientific machine learning techniques to enhance traditional computational methods.
During his stay at Digital Futures, he plans to collaborate closely with applied mathematicians from Department of Mathematics in scientific computing, data science, machine learning theories. He also intends to work with plasma physicists from School of EECS on fusion system modeling and and the development of machine learning surrogates to accelerate integrated modeling.
