SEC scholar 11 May – 31 August 2026
Dr. Sara Adhitya is a Senior Research Fellow at University College London’s Person-Environment-Activity Research Laboratory (PEARL), a unique environmental simulation laboratory which simulates life-sized environments under controlled conditions in order to understand their impact on people (www.pearl.place ). She is also the Founder and Director of ASPIRE, PEARL’s Arts-Sciences Programme (www.pearl.place/aspire ) which explores how technology can facilitate the integration of the Arts and Sciences to enable a more holistic understanding of the world and its subsequent design. She has a multidisciplinary background in environmental design, architecture, urban design, sound design, experience design, health and well-being and the performing arts, which allows her to translate between disciplines and manage complex, interdisciplinary research projects. She specialises in the design of multisensorial and immersive experiences, combining lighting, sound, smell, space and haptic technologies to create mixed reality environments for embodied knowledge exchange.
During her visit, Dr Adhitya will collaborate with Professor Sandra Pauletto and Associate Professor Pawel Herman on the project: The role of Sound in Sleep and Memory: Improving Sleep by Cueing Positive Memories. The aim of the visit is to combine Dr Adhitya’s expertise on the co-creation of immersive experiences with Prof Herman expertise on memory cognition and Prof Pauletto expertise on personalised sound to explore how multisensorial simulation technologies might inform memories-informed personalised soundscapes to improve sleep quality and other potential health applications.
