Roberta Ravanelli

SEC scholar 31 May 2025 – 13 July 2025

Roberta Ravanelli is currently a chargée de cours in the Department of Geography at the University of Liège (Belgium). Prior to this position, she served as a temporary assistant professor in the Geodesy and Geomatics Division at Sapienza University of Rome (Italy) and as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bologna (Italy). During her studies and research activities, she has developed a solid academic background in Geomatics, Remote Sensing, and Computer Vision. Her main research activities lie in the field of Geomatics and focus on the analysis of geospatial big data for large-scale and long-term environmental monitoring, as well as the 3D reconstruction of environments and objects at various scales.

During her visit at Digital Futures, Roberta will collaborate with her host, Professor Andrea Nascetti, and his team to gain insights into their ongoing work related to related to geospatial Artificial Intelligence (AI), geospatial foundational models and height estimation from open Earth Observation (EO) data. The primary objective of her research visit is to explore the application of geospatial AI techniques to EO imagery for 3D information extraction. In particular, she’ll focus on preliminarily testing novel models, methodologies, and datasets, with the aim of establishing a shared foundation for future research collaborations, publications, and funding opportunities.
