Jose Israel Rodriguez is a mathematician whose research connects algebraic geometry, statistics, and machine learning. As an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he develops mathematical and computational tools for studying nonlinear polynomial systems that arise in artificial intelligence, optimization, and scientific discovery. His recent work focuses on algebraic approaches to neural networks, identifiability, and Gaussian mixture
As a Digital Futures Scholar in Residence, Rodriguez will collaborate with researchers across mathematics, statistics, computer science, and engineering. His activities will include research, teaching, and community-building efforts aimed at strengthening connections between the mathematical sciences and artificial intelligence with an emphasis on algebraic approaches.
