Jasper Verschuur

SEC scholar 5 May – 26 June 2026

Jasper Verschuur is an Assistant Professor of Engineering Systems and Climate Security at Delft University of Technology. Before joining TU Delft, Jasper was a postdoc researcher at the Environmental Change Institute in Oxford, where he also obtained my PhD in Geography and the Environment in 2022. He holds a MSc in Water Science, Policy and Management from the University of Oxford and a MSc in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology. His research focuses on the quantifying the systemic risks that climate change poses to infrastructure systems and the essential services they provide to society, ranging from local-scale (e.g., household essential services) to global-scale (e.g., food and energy supplies) analyses.

His visit aims to integrate climate risks into the electrification planning model OnSSET, developed by the KTH division of Energy Systems. This includesI incorporating present and future climate risk factors, such as floods, extreme winds, and solar droughts, into the model for two case study countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Doing so will help improve the long-term reliability and sustainability of electrification planning by ensuring that climate-related risks are explicitly considered in least-cost infrastructure development pathways for developing countries.
