How to Design Trustworthy Robots” was the title of a talk by Digital Futures faculty member Jana Tumová at TEDxSSE in April. Jana is an associate professor at the Division of Robotics, Perception and Learning at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. Her research group focuses on making robots move autonomously, safely and purposefully in various contexts ranging from autonomous driving to exploration with drones to robot navigation around people.

Jana received her PhD in 2013 from Masaryk University in the Czech Republic; she was a visiting researcher at Boston University, MIT, and Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology and a postdoctoral researcher at KTH.  She received the Early Career Award from Robotics Science and Systems Foundation (2021) and the Swedish Research Council Starting Grant (2017). The EU, the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, Vinnova, and Digital Futures have also supported her research.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
