The next guest is Digital Futures Faculty member Anna Furberg, Researcher at the Department of Sustainable development, environmental science and engineering (SEED), KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Anna will talk about challenges for assessments on environmental impacts of digital technologies and provide recommendations in support for decision-making towards more sustainable digital futures.

A woman with shoulder-length brown hair and fair skin is standing indoors, smiling slightly at the camera. She is wearing a dark patterned shirt, and there are green leafy plants and soft lighting in the background.

Anna Furberg’s current research focuses on the contribution of knowledge on environmental impacts of digitalization in support for decision-making towards reduced impacts. For this, she applies LCA and life cycle thinking. In 2022, she was awarded with the SETAC Europe Young Scientist Life Cycle Assessment Award, which recognizes exceptional achievements by a young scientist in the field of LCA. In her presentation, she will focus on challenges in assessments of environmental impacts of digitalization, provide recommendations for assessments of the global information and communication technology sector’s climate impact and address environmental impacts of fast-growing AI.
