Dr. Gaurvi Goyal is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Advanced Computing Sciences, Maastricht University, Netherlands. Gaurvi Goyal obtained her PhD in Computer Science in 2020 from University of Genova, following prior degrees in Electronics and Robotics. During her PhD, she worked on viewpoint invariance for Human Action Recognition. She also spent 4 years as a PostDoc at Italian Institute of Technology’s Event driven Perception of Robotics group, focusing on event driven vision.
She has worked on various EU Horizon project in this time (VOJEXT, APRIL, PRIMI) as well as an industrial project with Sony Interactive Entertainment, Tokyo. Her current area of work involves taking inspiration from Neuroscience to build sustainable and efficient Neuromorphic vision algorithms for AI systems, that enhance human-machine interaction and improve quality of life. Her work prioritizes low-power, fast, accurate modules compatible with resource-constrained systems.
During her visit, Gaurvi will work with Associate Professor Jörg Conradt on investigating new collaborations. Primarily, this visit will focus on conceptualizing and adapting her HRI based Artificial Neural Network models towards the hardware constraints of computations and processing budgets of small form factor low-cost hardware and test them onboard the KTH robots and customized wearables, to allow real-time and low-energy execution.
