Kasun De Zoysa

Scholar in residence 3 – 28 December 2025

Dr. Kasun De Zoysa joins Digital Futures as a Scholar-in-Residence from the University of Colombo School of Computing (www.ucsc.cmb.ac.lk), Sri Lanka, where he serves a Professor in Computer Science,  the Head of the Department of Communication and Media Technologies and the Coordinator of the Digital Forensic Center. Dr. De Zoysa is a leading researcher in cybersecurity and digital forensics, with a strong commitment to developing practical, scalable digital solutions that address the needs of communities in the Global South.

With more than two decades of experience at the intersection of technology, governance, and national digital transformation, he has significantly contributed to strengthening Sri Lanka’s cybersecurity ecosystem. His work spans digital forensic investigations, cybercrime analysis, and the design of digital systems that respond to real societal challenges in resource constrained environments. Dr. De Zoysa’s research philosophy centers on real world applicability ensuring that technologies can function effectively across heterogeneous systems, fragmented infrastructure, and complex socio-technical contexts.

Dr. De Zoysa has an established international research profile and collaborates widely across Europe and Asia. His work includes innovative digital solutions for Global South contexts, such as using sensor networks and AI to mitigate human elephant conflict and applying aerial imagery and machine learning to support dengue detection and surveillance. As part of an ongoing collaboration between UCSC and KTH, he contributes to research on how machine learning models can enable more accurate and timely public health interventions to control the spread of dengue fever, a challenge of high relevance to countries facing environmental, infrastructural, and epidemiological constraints.

During his visit to KTH and Digital Futures, Dr. De Zoysa aims to deepen institutional collaboration in areas such as responsible AI, secure digital public infrastructure, and technology for social resilience. Through this residency, he seeks to advance long term, equitable South–North research partnerships and contribute to the Digital Futures mission of building a society where technology, people, and institutions interact in trustworthy and sustainable ways.
