Scholar in residence 9 June 2025 – 26 July 2025
Yu-Chu Tian is a Full Professor of Computer Science and the Academic Lead – Research at the School of Computer Science, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia. Prior to joining QUT, he held positions at Curtin University (1998–2002), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (1996–1998), and Zhejiang University, China (1993–1998). He was also a Visiting Professor at the University of Maryland at College Park, USA (2007) and the Tecnun School of Engineering, University of Navarra, Spain (2023–2024).
He received his Ph.D. in Computer and Software Engineering from the University of Sydney in 2009 and his Ph.D. in Control Engineering and Science from Zhejiang University in 1993. His research expertise covers big data, cloud computing, computer networks, smart grid communications, cyber-physical systems, and AI/ML, with applications in critical infrastructure.
During this visit, Prof. Tian will focus on advancing research in large-scale computer networks and cyber-physical security for sustainable energy systems. As Europe and Australia lead in renewable energy integration, challenges like Spain’s recent rapid blackout highlight critical vulnerabilities in grid resilience. By combining QUT’s strengths with KTH’s research capabilities, this collaboration will enhance energy system sustainability and digitalization, establishing a foundation for long-term partnerships.
