Roy Bendor

Scholar in residence in May 2025 and in September 2025

Roy Bendor is Associate Professor of Critical Design in the Department of Human-Centered Design at Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands, where he also directs the Design for Interaction (DfI) Master’s program. His research explores the capacity of design to disclose and promote alternative social, political and environmental futures. Roy is a Fellow of the Urban Futures Studio at Utrecht University, former editor of the sustainability forum in the ACM’s magazine Interactions, author of Interactive Media for Sustainability (Palgrave, 2018), and co-editor of Rethink Design: A Vocabulary for Designing with AI (TU Delft Open, 2024). Roy’s residency will include two cycles. The first, in May 2025, will be dedicated to developing the notion of Small AI as a means to connect environmental and social concerns. The second, in Sept. 2025, will focus on education for sustainability design futures.
