Seminar Explores AI Advances and Cybersecurity Challenges

AI and cybersecurity took centre stage at a recent event at KTH’s robotics lab, where experts explored the impact of rapid technological advancements. KTH President Anders Söderholm opened the seminar, stressing the need for greater investment in AI.

Moderated by digitalization expert Paulina Modlitba, familiar from Digital Futures conference Digitalize in Sthlm 2024, the discussions balanced AI’s potential benefits with concerns about its societal effects. Topics included AI’s role in healthcare, global competition, and energy efficiency.

Digital Futures faculty member, Professor Danica Kragic, highlighted the importance of industry collaboration, while noting slower-than-expected progress in humanoid robotics. She called for stronger academic-industry partnerships. Digital Futures Director, Professor Karl Henrik Johansson, emphasized international cooperation, describing it as vital for staying competitive and improving energy efficiency.

Cybersecurity expert Pontus Johnson, also a Digital Futures faculty member, illustrated the widespread vulnerabilities in IT systems, warning of the ongoing arms race between digital attackers and defenders. He advocated for sustained investment in cybersecurity.

KTH President Anders Söderholm closed the event by reaffirming KTH’s role in shaping the technological future, encouraging continued collaboration between academia, industry, and society.
