Håvard Bakke Bjerkevik

SEC scholar 19 May 2025 – 17 July 2025

Håvard Bakke Bjerkevik has been an Assistant professor at SUNY Albany since last year. Before that, he held postdoc positions at TU Graz, TU Munich and SUNY Albany. He completed his PhD at NTNU in his home country Norway in 2020.

My main area of research is Topological Data Analysis (TDA), which aims to study the geometric structure of data. During my visit, I plan to collaborate with Martina Scolamiero, who is one of my hosts, and others in the TDA group at KTH. There is a lot of TDA-relevant activity in Stockholm this summer, with several visitors, a summer school on stability in TDA and the Young Topologists Meeting, and I look forward to contributing to and enjoying this buzzing activity.

A good portion of my work in TDA involves computational complexity, and I want to use the visit to explore connections between TDA and theoretical computer science, which is an area of expertise of my two other hosts, Ioana-Oriana Bercea and Aristides Gionis. I also have a goal of doing research in theoretical computer science that is not necessarily related to TDA, and I hope that this visit can help me get integrated in this new community.

Hosts: Martina Scolamiero, Ioana-Oriana Bercea, Aristides Gionis.
