Abstract: This presentation delves into how Google Earth Engine and Google Research are using Earth Observation data and AI to actively address environmental challenges, focusing on sustainability and climate resilience. It showcases practical applications across various domains from retrospective land cover change detection to predictive modeling of malaria risk, and deep learning techniques being used in real-time alerting systems for flood detection, weather prediction, emissions reduction and global food security.

Bio: Noel Gorelick is a scientist and software engineer at Google and a founder of Google Earth Engine, a planetary-scale data analysis platform used by more than 750,000 researchers world-wide. In his role as Chief Extraterrestrial Observer, he currently helps scientists, governments, and NGOs use Earth Engine to address some of society’s biggest challenges like drought, disaster, disease, and deforestation.
