We are excited to announce that KTH School of Architecture is organizing a conference on the intersection of Architecture and Artificial Intelligence on the 19th, 20th, and 21st of March 2024 online and at KTH School of Architecture, Digital Futures and KTH Library.

For more information on registration and program, go to the Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Architecture website.

The conference’s theme is “Critical Architectural Intelligence: AI and Digitalization in the Present and Future of Architecture, Society, and the Environment.” In a world rapidly transformed by Artificial Intelligence (AI), this gathering seeks to critically examine the impact of AI on societies through the lens of architecture. We aim to unravel the web of tensions between social, economic, and political powers and the repercussions of AI on spatial dynamics, human interactions, and the environment.

As we navigate this territory, technologies like ChatGPT mark a turning point with their human-like production of conversations, poems, essays, and predictions, prompting some to label it a ‘platform shift.’ Yet, amid the rapid pace of development, concerns have arisen, leading to a call for a 6-month moratorium on AI models beyond ChatGPT4. The risks, ranging from biased sources to the creation of indistinguishable realities, necessitate a critical evaluation of AI’s impact on our lives.

In architecture, where envisioning the future under complex challenges is routine, AI has made notable inroads, streamlining design and research processes. This conference brings together architects and researchers from the humanities to explore how AI influences their practice and research. The discourse spans diverse topics, from the evolving role of architects in the era of AI to its influence on research methods, critical discourse, and societal norms.

Key questions will be tackled, including the potential replacement of architects by AI, the impact on gender and non-binary issues, and how AI shapes our daily choices, political opinions, and interactions with the environment. By fostering a multidisciplinary dialogue, this conference aims to deepen our understanding of the relationship between AI, architecture, and society, seeking paths that prioritize ethical considerations and inclusivity.
