The Symposium on Fostering Human Agency in AI-Mediated Education brings together an
invited group of international scholars and practitioners from education, learning sciences,
cognitive science, human–computer interaction, and artificial intelligence.
The symposium continues an exploration into how human agency can be understood,
supported, and sustained in an era increasingly shaped by AI systems. Rather than viewing AI
as a replacement for human judgment or creativity, the event approaches it as a medium —
one that can extend and enrich human insight, empathy, and collaboration when thoughtfully
designed and used.
Over three days, participants will engage in a series of keynote dialogues, reflective
discussions, and collaborative sessions aimed at deepening our collective understanding of
what it means to teach, learn, and act as humans alongside intelligent technologies. The
symposium also seeks to develop shared frameworks and language for human-centered AI —
grounded in autonomy, trust, and ethical alignment — and to strengthen ongoing
international collaborations across research and practice.
Ultimately, the symposium is both a continuation and an invitation: a space to think together,
across disciplines and perspectives, about how AI can help us not only to learn more
efficiently, but to learn more humanly.
